Solar energy refers to the energy we receive from the sun. This unconventional source of energy has risen as the most anticipated transition around the world. This has been a transition from pollution to a clean environment; a transition from convention to the unconventional. Solar energy is witnessing a vast increase of public awareness and international participation.

The proper utilization of solar energy is presumably going to be the key topic of discussion at the upcoming Copenhagen mega summit to tackle climate change. World leaders from 192 nations are going to attend this highest level summit this December.

So, at this juxtaposition of time, it is worthwhile to realize the advantages of solar energy over other sources of energy. The list of advantages is endless. This article intends to highlight the most important of them.

Firstly, solar energy is clean energy. It does not cause pollution. It is a natural friend of the environment. It is recyclable and renewable. In always has been so since the beginning of creation. Also, solar energy, being a never ending source of energy poses no strict maintenance requirement. An occasional cleaning with plain water is all that needed to maintain the solar power panels and the solar water heating systems.

Secondly, this is a huge amount of untapped energy. As civilization is slowly realizing the impending disaster of global warming, solar energy is emerging as the absolute winner. An interesting estimate can help you to surmise the nature of this abundance. This estimate shows that the total yearly solar radiation reaching the earth’s surface is 7000 times more than the total energy consumption by the whole of human race in that given year.
Thirdly, this abundance coupled with international attention has made solar energy as the cost effective energy solution champion of the world. The harnessing of solar energy is everyday contributing to some social cause, thus raising hopes and good wishes in a million minds across the world.

The efficiency of solar energy in saving money is also no less important. Although the primary installation costs of a solar energy unit is more than a normal fossil fuel electricity connection, yet, in the long run solar cells have proved themselves winners (Save Thousands of $$ by building your own!!!). The solar energy is free energy as no one owns the sun or the sunlight. So, evidently, once the solar panels have been installed, there is again hardly any expenditure to be done.

The immense versatility of solar energy and the widespread applications that it can be channelized into have also contributed in its being more advantageous over the other conventional sources of energy.

In recent years, more people have looked to DIY solar energy as a way to heat their homes and save them money. A solar panel is defined as a device that collects the sun’s energy and transforms into energy that you can use for other purposes such as heating or electricity and the best part it is free.

INSTRUCTIONS ON DIY SOLAR PANELS

For the longest time many people would avoid solar panels because of the cost, but that is changing as well. As more people decide to work with this type of alternative energy source, the price will continue to fall. Learning how to make a DIY solar panel is not as tough as it sounds and most of the tools you need are probably laying on your workbench right now. Some things you will need will be nails, screws, hammer, screwdriver, and a drill. Making the panel you will need some copper tube, aluminum sheet, timber glass fibber wool and marine-ply sheet and some glass. If you have all this we are ready to proceed.

The wood frame is where you need to start first. One of the more important things to remember is use wood that is durable as it will face many different types of weather conditions from hot to cool to wet days during its lifetime. After the frame is finished, you need to apply the marine-ply sheet to the back. Then insert glass fibber wool inside to prepare the isolation of the absorber plate. A good tip here is to where gloves to protect your hands.

Grab your aluminum sheets and make sure it is totally free of any oil. This is very important in the process of making a DIY solar panel. Once it is totally free of oil, you will want to coat it with some red oxide. This will form to make your absorber plate, which you will attach to the copper tubing that we have. You can use copper clips or solder the tube to the absorber plate back. I prefer solder, as it will withstand the weather much better. Now you will need to insert the absorber plate that we just finished into the tray. Use screws to attach it safely so it does not go anywhere. Use some aluminum baking foil to cushion it as well.

It is now time to put the glazing on. Thickness of the glass used will be determined by the size of your frame that you made. Bigger the frame the thicker the glass. Once you have your glass cut always remember to seal it with any kind of sealant to keep moisture out. As you can see it takes a little time, but you can plan and start building your own DIY solar panels.

DIY Solar power doesnt have to be difficult or complicated and before long you could be well on your way to creating your own energy!
